History of Amtico flooring

With over 50 years of experience in the industry, Amtico boasts a proud British heritage in designing, innovating and manufacturing flooring that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also durable and sustainable. Amtico International was first formed in 1964 as a joint venture between Courtaulds and American Biltrite and over the years underwent numerous different acquisitions and changes, some of the most notable moments include:

1995: Amtico become the first company in the industry to achieve an ISO 140001 certification

2003: Amtico International becomes a volunteer member of the ERMFIA European scheme focusing on finding the most effective and efficient ways of ‘end of life’ recycling PVC

2008: All Amtico packing becomes 100% recyclable in order to reduce the size of the company’s carbon footprint in the UK

2016: Amtico launches its new brand identity alongside releasing the impressive Signature Collection

How much does Amtico flooring cost?

Normally the first question on many people's minds when they go to buy a product is “How much will this cost?” When it comes to flooring, this question can be dependent on a couple of factors such as the square meterage required, the type of flooring, the condition of your existing flooring and whether or not your floors are evenly levelled.

It’s important to note that the cost of Amtico flooring may vary depending on the style that you choose, however, on average for Amtico flooring you can expect to pay anywhere between £20 - £90 per square metre.

With pricing slightly higher than the average vinyl flooring which can start as low as £6 - £7 per square metre, you pay extra due to the premium quality provided by Amtico. In addition, Amtico flooring is significantly less than other alternatives such as wood or stone and offers a wide selection of colours, designs and patterns.

Alongside factoring in the cost of the flooring, you’ll also need to consider the cost of installing the flooring. As a rough estimate, the installation of Amtico flooring can cost anywhere between £10 - £15 per square metre, and extra costs may be incurred during the preparation stage, particularly if your flooring needs to be levelled. Ideally, you want to set aside a pot of money to cover any unexpected costs in addition to what you’ve already budgeted for the flooring and installation.

A greener choice

By choosing Amtico flooring, you can uplift the look and feel of your living and working spaces, while supporting sustainable practices that protect the planet. Andersons of Inverurie has a range of Amtico products designed and manufactured with the environment in mind. Amtico continues to enhance its operations in ways which minimise the impact on the planet, from the use of completely recyclable materials to reducing waste wherever possible, Amtico has set a benchmark for the industry to follow.

Installing Amtico flooring

Amtico flooring can be fitted in two main ways, by an approved fitter/installer such as our knowledgeable flooring team at Andersons of Inverurie or by yourself. The former option guarantees that your flooring will be laid to the highest standard possible, as the professional fitter will have a full understanding and knowledge of the product and service - also saving you significant amounts of time spent trying to fit the flooring yourself. In addition, buying and installing Amtico flooring through an approved retailer gives you the benefits of specific warranties only valid through approved retailers and certified installers/fitters.

The process of installing Amtico flooring begins with a consultation with your local Amtico retailer who will discuss factors such as your room size, style and budget, generating an accurate quotation for the project. Once agreed upon, the Amtico retailer will then need to evaluate the condition of your subfloor as most Amtico LVT flooring needs to be glued on an even, dry and washed surface - apart from the Click Smart flooring which can be applied on top of the existing floor.

Your flooring will then be delivered and separately taken out of the packaging for 24 hours to ensure that each piece of flooring has adjusted to the room temperature before installation. This stops the flooring from becoming warped or moving after the installation has taken place. Following the installation, you should refrain from walking, cleaning or putting furniture on top of the flooring for a minimum of 24 hours.

How to care for and maintain your Amtico flooring

Once all the installation is complete, you want to ensure you are equipped with all the right information and tips on how to care and maintain your Amtico flooring.

To minimise wear and tear over time, there are a few simple tips and tricks you can follow to maintain your Amtico flooring which require minimal upkeep.
Using the Amtico quality approved cleaning and maintenance products, you can have your floor looking as sparkling and new as the day it was installed. The Amtico Floorcare Starter Kit contains everything you need to take care for your flooring including a spillage remover, maintainer, protective felt pads and a cleaning pad.

There are four simple ways to care for your Amtico flooring:

Keep the surface protected

To keep the surface protected from scratches you want to ensure that you add a protective felt or covers on the bottom of any furniture, particularly chairs with sharp metal feet. By adding these protective measures furniture will be able to glide across the flooring without causing any major dents or damage.

Say goodbye to dust and dirt

The key to caring for your flooring is to ensure that it is kept clean and free from dust or dirt, which is simple with Amticos easy to maintain flooring. By sweeping the floors frequently with a soft bristle brush you can elimninte dust building up without harming the flooring. Additionally, you should aim to mop your floors weekly depending on the level of traffic where your flooring is placed, for example, high traffic areas such as hallways or living areas may need to be mopped more frequently than other areas. Doormats are also another simple product that can reduce the amount of dust or dirt that ends up traipsed through your home or workspace.

Maintain a solid washing and brushing routine

Designed to remove any tough dirt that fails to come off after one light sweep, Amticos Floorcare Maintainer is perfect for coupling with a standard string mop to eliminate stains and maintain your flooring.

Deep clean

Roughly once a year, it is recommended to do a deep clean of your Amtico flooring. You can do this by using the Amtico Floorcare Stripper to remove any dirt that has become ingrained in the flooring. Once you’ve applied the solution, you can then use the Amtico Floorcare Dressing to give your flooring the ultimate glossy finish.

How to select the perfect Amtico flooring for your home

Choosing your Amtico flooring can of course seem like a daunting task! Thankfully, Amtico Design Manager, Sarah Escott, dissected some of the key elements to consider which can alleviate some of the stresses when it comes to decision-making.

Sarah mentions that when choosing the right colour tone for your home, customers should consider the building’s age and the aesthetic you want to bring into your space. For example, older properties tend to match well with Amtico’s classical products such as distressed and reclaimed woods.

The size of the space is a critical factor in determining the colour, and pattern, of LVT flooring that will work best as these aspects must be compatible. Sarah’s tip is that smaller spaces, such as a narrow hallways, tend to suit smaller scale patterns, whereas vast spaces are better matched to Amtico’s larger-scale designs.
